Think of the Basset Fauve de Bretagne as a typical Basset Hound with a lighter, shaggier coat and more energy. These dogs have the same hunting traits, sweet personality, and love for family as similar Basset breeds, but you’ll find their looks and appetite for activity to be quite different.

The Basset Fauve de Bretagne is a smaller version of the now extinct Grand Fauve de Bretagne. This cheery pup is a delightful mix of hunter and companion. Basset Fauves are high energy dogs that need a lot of exercise. They’re happiest when they get at least a few walks each day and playtime in a spacious outdoor area. Like other Bassets, this breed is known to run off to find interesting smells, so be sure to keep them on a leash or in a fenced area at all times.
