The Brittany is a sweet, medium-sized dog that loves their families. They’ve got enough energy for the entire dog park and need lots of exercise to stay healthy. Brittanys makes superb bird hunting dogs, but can also be kept busy with lots of outdoor playtime or canine sports if hunting’s not your thing. They have a relatively low-maintenance, wavy coat that requires weekly brushing and lots of petting! The Brittany is sensitive, and only wants to make you happy, which makes them eager learners during training sessions. So long as you give your dog plenty of attention and exercise, the Brittany will make an excellent companion.

The Brittany requires an active lifestyle. If you aren't willing to give your dog plenty of daily exercise, neither you nor your Brittany will be happy. They need a family that will take them out to hunt, play fetch, or do anything that involves plenty of running and playing.

Exercise & Activity

You won’t believe how much energy a Brittany has. You need to be committed to taking your dog out for vigorous daily exercise if you want a Brittany. If you put in the energy to keep your Brittany happy, you and your family will be rewarded with a brilliant, loyal companion.

More than anything, the Brittany wants to please you. They are generally friendly to children and other dogs and are especially loyal to their family, but they absolutely need their exercise. A bored Brittany can develop bad habits like barking or digging. You can prevent these types of behaviors by giving your dog plenty of playtime and starting their training at an early age.

The Brittany has a relatively low-maintenance coat. They require weekly brushing, but that’s about it. Of course, if your Brittany decides a mud pit is the best place to play, you’ll need to give it a bath, otherwise it’s just basic maintenance with only moderate shedding.
