Pomeranians have been popular pups for centuries. A favorite among British royalty in the 1800s, they are related to large sled and herding dogs but were bred to be the perfect lapdog. As soon as you walk through the door, these fluffy, scruffy companions will hop to their back legs and wave their hands in the air. It’s like having a small cheering section in your own home! But, here’s a secret, they can easily be coaxed with a treat. Without proper socialization, some Poms can be cautious and even nippy toward strangers and other dogs. Pomeranians also like to bark and will let you know when someone is at the door. They aim to please, though, and will listen to a strong leader when told to quiet down. One thing you should know about Pomeranians is that they will never turn down a day of pampering! They love to be primped, fluffed, and outfitted.

Being this pretty doesn’t come easy. Pomeranians require some upkeep to maintain their good looks. Poms have a thick double coat that requires daily brushing. These dogs do shed and daily maintenance will reduce the amount of fur left behind on the couch. These dogs should see a professional groomer every 4-6 weeks for perfectly coiffed hair. This breed is also prone to tooth decay, so it’s recommended to brush their teeth a few times each week to ensure they’ll keep their full set of chompers into their old age.
