The Miniature Dachshund is a small, elongated breed of dog known for its distinctive long body, short legs, and lively personality. Originally bred in Germany to hunt small game, particularly badgers, their name translates to "badger dog" ("Dachs" means badger, and "hund" means dog in German). Key traits of mini dachshunds include: Size: They typically weigh around 11-15 pounds Personality: They're known for being brave, curious, and sometimes stubborn. Despite their small size, they can have a big-dog attitude. Coat types: They come in three varieties—smooth, long-haired, and wire-haired. Exercise needs: Moderate; they enjoy walks and playtime, but their short legs mean they don't require excessive exercise. Health: Due to their long backs, they are prone to spinal issues, especially intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so it's important to avoid excessive jumping or rough handling. Overall, mini dachshunds make loyal, affectionate companions!
